When Mordecai heard about the letter, he tore his clothes in sorrow and put on sackcloth. Then he covered his head with ashes and went through the city, crying and weeping.

In days filled with trouble, I search for you. And at night I tirelessly lift my hands in prayer, refusing comfort.

In the towns and at home, everyone wears sackcloth and cries loud and long.
