The storms of winter strike,

This is the message that I was given about Babylon:

I, the LORD All-Powerful, am terribly angry— I will make the sky tremble and the earth shake loose.

The LORD will have mercy on Israel and will let them be his chosen people once again. He will bring them back to their own land, and foreigners will join them as part of Israel.

I'll be above the clouds, just like God Most High.”

The LORD will sweep out the people, and the land will become a swamp for wild animals.

This is a message about Damascus: Damascus is doomed! It will end up in ruins.

City of Babylon, you are delicate and untouched, but that will change. Surrender your royal power and sit in the dust.

Their arrows are sharp, and their bows are ready. The hoofs of their horses are hard as flint; the wheels of their war chariots turn as fast as a whirlwind.

I, the LORD, am sending a wind to destroy the people of Babylonia and Babylon, its capital.

Babylon's enemies will rise like ocean waves and flood the city.

You feel ashamed and disgraced, because foreigners have entered my sacred temple.

I saw a storm blowing in from the north. Lightning flashed from a huge cloud and lit up the whole sky with a dazzling brightness. The fiery centre of the cloud was as shiny as polished metal,

He and his cruel troops will invade and destroy your land and leave your dead bodies piled everywhere.

Cruel foreigners will chop it down and leave it wherever it falls. Branches and broken limbs will be scattered over the mountains and in the valleys. The people living in the shade of those branches will go somewhere else.

But you and your army will attack them like a fierce thunderstorm and surround them like a cloud.

At the time of the end, the king of the south will attack the kingdom of the north. But its king will rush out like a storm with war chariots, cavalry, and many ships. Indeed, his forces will flood one country after another,

Like a cloud, the LORD God will appear over his people, and his arrows will flash like lightning. God will sound his trumpet and attack in a whirlwind from the south.
