From a distant land the LORD is coming fierce and furious— he brings his weapons to destroy the earth.

Our warriors have fallen, and their weapons are destroyed.

The Lord says: I am furious! And I will use the king of Assyria as a club

The Medes can't be bought off with silver or gold, and I'm sending them to attack Babylonia.

The LORD is going to twist the earth out of shape and turn it into a desert. Everyone will be scattered,

Go inside and lock the doors, my people. Hide there for a little while, until the LORD is no longer angry.

The LORD is coming from far away with his fiery anger and thick clouds of smoke. His angry words flame up like a destructive fire;

The LORD is terribly angry with the nations; he has condemned them to be slaughtered.

Gather around me, all of you! Listen to what I say. Did any of your idols predict this would happen? Did they say that my friend would do what I want done to Babylonia?

The LORD has signalled for the foreign nations to come and attack you. He has already whistled, and they are coming as fast as they can.

When you see this happen, you will celebrate; your strength will return faster than grass can sprout. Then everyone will know that the LORD is present with his servants, but he is angry with his enemies.

When that time comes, the LORD will whistle, and armies will come from Egypt like flies and from Assyria like bees.

I've brought out my weapons, and with them I will put a curse on Babylonia.

The attack on the Babylonians will come from the north; they and their animals will run, leaving the land empty.

In the north I am bringing great nations together. They will attack Babylon and capture it. The arrows they shoot are like the best soldiers, always finding their target.

I, the LORD, want Babylon destroyed, because its army destroyed my temple. So, you kings of Media, sharpen your arrows and pick up your shields.

In a foreign land my people are crying. Listen! You'll hear them say, “Has the LORD deserted Zion? Is he no longer its king?” I hear the LORD reply, “Why did you make me angry by worshipping useless idols?”

So in my fierce anger, I will punish the Israelites for what they have done, and they will know that I am furious. I, the LORD, have spoken.

At the sound of a loud trumpet, he will send his angels to bring his chosen ones together from all over the earth.
