Jerusalem, you are like an unfaithful wife. Once your judges were honest and your people lived right; now you are a city full of murderers.

He told them: Faithfully serve the LORD!

The nation's leaders and their families settled in Jerusalem. But there was room for only one out of every ten of the remaining families, and so they asked God to show them who would live there.

A river and its streams bring joy to the city, which is the sacred home of God Most High.

The LORD God is wonderful! He deserves all praise in the city where he lives. His holy mountain,

We had heard about it, and now we have seen it in the city of our God, the LORD All-Powerful. This is the city that God will let stand for ever.

Your silver is fake, and your wine is watered down.

Even when the wicked are treated with mercy in this land of justice, they do wrong and are blind to your glory, our LORD.

You call Jerusalem your home and say you depend on me, the LORD All-Powerful, the God of Israel.

I am the LORD All-Powerful! Israel is the vineyard, and Judah is the garden I tended with care. I had hoped for honesty and for justice, but dishonesty and cries for mercy were all I found.

Injustice is everywhere; justice seems far away. Truth is chased out of court; honesty is shoved aside.

Everyone tells lies; those who turn from crime end up ruined. When the LORD noticed that justice had disappeared, he became very displeased.

Your talk is filled with lies and plans for violence; every finger on your hands is covered with blood.

The LORD said to the people of Israel: If a divorced woman marries, can her first husband ever marry her again? No, because this would pollute the land. But you have more gods than a prostitute has lovers. Why should I take you back?

Israel is deceitful to me, their loyal and holy God; they surround me with lies, and Judah worships other gods.

Your mother was unfaithful. She was disgraceful and said, “I'll run after my lovers. Everything comes from them— my food and drink, my linen and wool, my olive oil and wine.”

Laws cannot be enforced; justice is always the loser; criminals crowd out honest people and twist the laws around.

I will return to Jerusalem and live there on Mount Zion. Then Jerusalem will be known as my faithful city, and Zion will be known as my holy mountain.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Your people have killed the prophets and have stoned the messengers who were sent to you. I have often wanted to gather your people, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you wouldn't let me.

Is there one prophet that your ancestors didn't ill-treat? They killed the prophets who told about the coming of the One Who Obeys God. And now you have turned against him and killed him.

You have now come to Mount Zion and to the heavenly Jerusalem. This is the city of the living God, where thousands and thousands of angels have come to celebrate.

But don't measure the courtyard outside the temple building. Leave it out. It has been given to those people who don't know God, and they will trample all over the holy city for forty-two months.

Their bodies will be left lying in the streets of the same great city where their Lord was nailed to a cross. And that city is spiritually like the city of Sodom or the country of Egypt.

One of the seven angels who had emptied the bowls came over and said to me, “Come on! I will show you how God will punish that shameless prostitute who sits on many oceans.
