You are brutal and corrupt, as were the men of Gibeah. But God remembers your sin, and you will be punished.

The LORD said to Moses: Hurry back down! Those people you led out of Egypt are acting like fools.

The earth is polluted because its people disobeyed the laws of God, breaking their agreement that was to last for ever.

People of Israel, come back! You have completely turned from the LORD.

My people, you love to wander away; you don't even try to stay close to me. So now I will reject you and punish you for your sins. I, the LORD, have spoken.

The LORD God said: Ezekiel, son of man, the Ammonites have insulted Israel, so condemn them and tell them I am saying: A sword is drawn, ready to slaughter; it is polished and prepared to kill as fast as lightning.

Israel, you have never stopped sinning since that time at Gibeah. That's why you will be attacked at Gibeah.

That's why I will punish the people for their deeds, just as I will punish you priests.

Give a warning on the trumpet! Let it be heard in Gibeah, Ramah, and sinful Bethel. Benjamin, watch out!

No one realizes that I have seen their sins surround them like a flood.

You sacrifice your best animals and eat the sacrificial meals, but I, the LORD, refuse your offerings. I will remember your sins and punish you. Then you will return to Egypt.

Israel, the LORD sent me to look after you. But you trap his prophets and flood his temple with your hatred.

God felt certain that Jerusalem would learn to respect and obey him. Then he would hold back from punishing the city and not wipe it out. But everyone there was eager to start sinning again.

“No,” the Levite answered. “They aren't Israelites, and I refuse to spend the night there. We'll stop for the night at Gibeah,

Soon an old man came in through the gates on his way home from working in the fields. Most of the people who lived in Gibeah belonged to the tribe of Benjamin, but this man was originally from the hill country of Ephraim.

They were having a good time, when some worthless men of that town surrounded the house and started banging on the door and shouting, “A man came to your house tonight. Send him out, so we can have sex with him!”

who were having to fight on all sides. The Israelite soldiers never let up their attack. They chased and killed the warriors of Benjamin as far as a place directly east of Gibeah,
