Israel, the time has come. You will get what you deserve, and you will know it. “Prophets are fools,” you say. “And God's messengers are mad.” Your terrible guilt has filled you with hatred.

Jehu went back to his officers, and one of them asked, “What did that mad prophet want? Is everything all right?” “You know him and how he talks,” Jehu answered.

Your prophets deceived you with false visions and lying messages— they should have warned you to leave your sins and be saved from disaster.

Those prophets refuse to be honest. They tell my people there will be peace, even though there's no peace to be found. They are like workers who think they can fix a shaky wall by covering it with paint.

I, the LORD God, say those lying prophets are doomed! They don't see visions—they make up their own messages!

In my fierce anger, I will take revenge on them. And when I punish them, they will know that I am the LORD.”

I will do these things to show the world that I, the LORD, am holy.

And so I will not have pity on them or forgive them. They will be punished for what they have done.”

Israel, return! Come back to the LORD, your God. Sin has made you fall.

I, the LORD, will punish and wipe out Israel. This is my solemn promise to every tribe of Israel.

You sacrifice your best animals and eat the sacrificial meals, but I, the LORD, refuse your offerings. I will remember your sins and punish you. Then you will return to Egypt.

The great city of Babylon split into three parts, and the cities of other nations fell. So God made Babylon drink from the wine cup that was filled with his anger.
