Even if you escape alive, you will end up in Egypt and be buried in Memphis. Your silver treasures will be lost among weeds; thorns will sprout in your tents.

The time is coming when the LORD will shake the land between the River Euphrates and the border of Egypt, and one by one he will bring all his people together.

And so, you will die in Egypt from war, hunger, and disease.

The LORD told me to speak with the Jews who were living in the towns of Migdol, Tahpanhes, and Memphis in northern Egypt, and also to those living in southern Egypt. He told me to tell them:

There were only a few of you left in Judah, and you decided to go to Egypt. But you will die such horrible deaths in war or from starvation, that people of other countries will use the name of Judah as a curse word.

I punished Jerusalem with war, hunger, and disease, and that's how I will punish you.

You will be led away captive, so pack a few things to bring with you. Your capital, Memphis, will lie empty and in ruins.

All the idols and images you Egyptians worship in the city of Memphis will be smashed. No one will be left to rule your nation, and terror will fill the land.

I will set fire to your nation of Egypt! The city of Pelusium will be in anguish. Thebes will fall, and the people of Memphis will live in constant fear.

The altars at sinful Bethel will be destroyed for causing Israel to sin; they will be overgrown with thorns and thistles. Then everyone will beg the mountains and hills to cover and protect them.

They will come back, fluttering like birds from Egypt or like doves from Assyria. Then I will bring them back to their homes. I, the LORD, have spoken!

I, the LORD, will build a fence of thorns to block her path.

Israel is a senseless bird, fluttering back and forth between Egypt and Assyria.

Trouble and destruction will be their reward for rejecting me. I would have rescued them, but they told me lies.

and refuse to obey. They are more useless than a crooked arrow. Their leaders will die in war for saying foolish things. Egyptians will laugh at them.

You sacrifice your best animals and eat the sacrificial meals, but I, the LORD, refuse your offerings. I will remember your sins and punish you. Then you will return to Egypt.

and you will have to leave the land of the LORD. Some of you will go to Egypt; others will go to Assyria and eat unclean food.

After I destroy your towns and ruin your land with war, I'll scatter you among the nations.

Everyone in Lower Hollow will mourn loudly, because merchants and money changers will be wiped out.

The Israelite army realized that they were outnumbered and were going to lose the battle. Some of the Israelite men hid in caves or in clumps of bushes, and some ran to places where they could hide among large rocks. Others hid in tombs or in deep dry pits.
