Our LORD, I am praying for your servants—those you rescued by your great strength and mighty power.

They rejected God All-Powerful, feeling he was helpless,

This is the LORD's message for his rebellious people: “You follow your own plans instead of mine; you make treaties without asking me, and you keep on sinning.

You trust Egypt for protection. So you refuse my advice and send messengers to Egypt to beg their king for help.

You are in for trouble if you go to Egypt for help, or if you depend on an army of chariots or a powerful cavalry. Instead you should depend on and trust the holy LORD God of Israel.

People of Israel, don't worry, though others may say, “Israel is only a worm!” I am the holy God of Israel, who saves and protects you.

Descendants of Jacob, I, the LORD, created you and formed your nation. Israel, don't be afraid. I have rescued you. I have called you by name; now you belong to me.

We have rebelled and refused to follow you. Our hearts were deceitful, and so we lied; we planned to abuse others and turn our backs on you.

The LORD rescued his people, and said, “They are mine. They won't betray me.”

My people, you love to wander away; you don't even try to stay close to me. So now I will reject you and punish you for your sins. I, the LORD, have spoken.

You asked me to pray and find out what the LORD our God wants you to do, and you promised to obey him. But that was a terrible mistake,

The foreigners answered, “We have already tried to treat Babylon's wounds, but they would not heal. Come on, let's all go home to our own countries. Nothing is left in Babylonia; everything is destroyed.”

And as for you, people of Judah, I'm going to send you away from my land, just as I sent away the people of Ephraim and the other northern tribes.

Zion's glory has disappeared! And we are doomed because of our sins.

Now I, the LORD God, say you are doomed! Not only did you do these evil things,

Ezekiel, I hear the people of Israel using the old saying, “Sour grapes eaten by parents leave a sour taste in the mouths of their children.”

You people of Israel accuse me of being unfair! But listen—I'm not unfair; you are!

So my sheep were scattered across the earth. They roamed on hills and mountains, without anyone even bothering to look for them.

Israel is deceitful to me, their loyal and holy God; they surround me with lies, and Judah worships other gods.

But as the saying goes, “The more they were called, the more they rebelled.” They never stopped offering incense and sacrifices to the idols of Baal.

You have been unfaithful to me, your LORD; you have had children by prostitutes. So at the New Moon Festival, you and your crops will be destroyed.

and to heal its wounds. But then I see the crimes in Israel and Samaria. Everyone is deceitful; robbers roam the streets.

The king and his officials take great pleasure in their sin and deceit.

Even if you do have children, I will take them all and leave you to mourn. I will turn away, and you will sink down in deep trouble.

Israel, you disobeyed my God. Now he will force you to roam from nation to nation.

When the sailors heard this, they were frightened, because Jonah had already told them he was running from the LORD. Then they said, “Do you know what you have done?”

Instead, Jonah ran from the LORD. He went to the seaport of Joppa and bought a ticket on a ship that was going to Spain. Then he got on the ship and sailed away to escape.

You rich people are violent, and everyone tells lies.

I rescued you from Egypt, where you were slaves. I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to be your leaders.

Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Your people have killed the prophets and have stoned the messengers who were sent to you. I have often wanted to gather your people, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. But you wouldn't let me.

I am commanding you to obey the LORD as a reminder that you were slaves in Egypt before he set you free.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make God a liar, and his message isn't in our hearts.

Then I looked and saw a lone eagle flying across the sky. It was shouting, “Trouble, trouble, trouble to everyone who lives on earth! The other three angels are now going to blow their trumpets.”
