You priests have rejected me, and my people are destroyed by refusing to obey. Now I'll reject you and forget your children, because you have forgotten my Law.

For a long time, the people of Israel did not worship the true God or listen to priests who could teach them about God. They refused to obey God's Law.

But if they foolishly refuse, they will be rewarded with a violent death.

It upsets me greatly when my enemies neglect your teachings.

I have not forgotten your Law! Look at the trouble I am in, and rescue me.

Evil people may set a trap, but I obey your Law.

You rescue the humble, but you put down all who are proud.

Many are helped by useful instruction, but fools are killed by their own stupidity.

Willingness and stupidity don't go well together. If you are too eager, you will miss the road.

Oxen and donkeys know who owns and feeds them, but my people won't ever learn.”

Israel, you have forgotten the God who saves you, the one who is the mighty rock where you find protection. You plant the finest flowers to honour a foreign god.

When broken branches fall to the ground, women pick them up to feed the fire. But these people are so stupid that the God who created them will show them no mercy.

Priests and prophets stumble because they are drunk. Their minds are too confused to receive God's messages or give honest decisions.

Others say, “We can't read it, because we don't know how to read.”

Though you are God's people, you are ruled and abused by women and children. You are confused by leaders who guide you down the wrong path.

to every survivor from every nation: “Gather around me! Learn how senseless it is to worship wooden idols or pray to helpless gods.

and so his people know nothing about him. That's why many of you will be dragged off to foreign lands. Your leaders will starve to death, and everyone else will suffer from thirst.

The priests who teach my laws don't care to know me. Your leaders rebel against me; your prophets give messages from Baal and worship false gods.

I heard the LORD say, “My people ignore me. They are foolish children who do not understand that they will be punished. All they know is how to sin.”

You fools! Why don't you listen when I speak? Why can't you understand

Priests must teach my people the difference between what is sacred and what is ordinary, and between what is clean and what is unclean.

I fed you till you were satisfied, then you became proud and forgot about me.

I'll punish her for the days she worshipped Baal and burnt incense to him. I'll punish her for the times she forgot about me and wore jewellery and rings to attract her lovers. I, the LORD, have spoken!

Israel, listen as the LORD accuses everyone in the land! No one is faithful or loyal or truly cares about God.

You expect wooden idols and other objects of wood to give you advice. Lusting for sex at pagan shrines has made you unfaithful to me, your God.

But I won't punish them. You men are to blame, because you go to prostitutes and offer sacrifices with them at pagan shrines. Your own foolishness will lead to your ruin.

Your evil deeds are the reason you won't return to me, your LORD God. And your constant craving for sex keeps you from knowing me.

I'd rather you were faithful and knew me than offered sacrifices.

Israel is a senseless bird, fluttering back and forth between Egypt and Assyria.

They don't seem to realize how weak and feeble they are; their hair has turned grey, while foreigners rule.

Sound a warning! Israel, you broke our agreement and ignored my teaching. Now an eagle is swooping down to attack my land.

My instructions for sacrifices were written in detail, but you ignored them.

Israel, I created you, but you forgot me. You and Judah built palaces and many strong cities. Now I will send fire to destroy your towns and fortresses.

Israel, you disobeyed my God. Now he will force you to roam from nation to nation.

Stay away from those Pharisees! They are like blind people leading other blind people, and all of them will fall into a ditch.”
