Joram asked, “Jehu, is this a peaceful visit?” “How can there be peace?” Jehu asked. “Your mother Jezebel has caused everyone to worship idols and practise witchcraft.”

When broken branches fall to the ground, women pick them up to feed the fire. But these people are so stupid that the God who created them will show them no mercy.

The LORD says, “Children, I didn't divorce your mother or sell you to pay debts; I divorced her and sold you because of your sins.

You people are unfaithful! You go to fortune-tellers, and you worship idols. Now pay close attention!

Then I will smash them against each other like jars. I will have no pity on the young or the old, and they will all be destroyed. I, the LORD, have spoken.

When someone dies, don't visit the family or show any sorrow. I will no longer love or bless or have any pity on the people of Judah.

I am angry with you, so I will let them be very cruel. They will cut off your nose and ears; they will kill your children and put to death anyone in your family who is still alive.

So in my fierce anger, I will punish them without mercy and refuse to help them when they cry out to me.”

And so I will not have pity on them or forgive them. They will be punished for what they have done.”

The LORD said, “Hosea, Israel has betrayed me like an unfaithful wife. Marry such a woman and have children by her.”

Later, Gomer had a daughter, and the LORD said, “Name her Lo-Ruhamah, because I will no longer have mercy and forgive Israel.

You have been unfaithful to me, your LORD; you have had children by prostitutes. So at the New Moon Festival, you and your crops will be destroyed.

At this, the angel said, “LORD All-Powerful, for seventy years you have been angry with Jerusalem and the towns of Judah. When are you ever going to have mercy on them?”

But you are doing exactly what your father does.” “Don't accuse us of having someone else as our father!” they said. “We just have one father, and he is God.”

Now you see both how kind and how hard God can be. He was hard on those who fell, but he was kind to you. And he will keep on being kind to you, if you keep on trusting in his kindness. Otherwise, you will be cut away too.

Everything depends on what God decides to do, and he can either have pity on people or make them stubborn.

Do this, because on the day of judgment there will be no pity for those who have not had pity on others. But even in judgment, God is merciful!
