Hebrews 4:3

Only people who have faith will enter the place of rest. It is just as the Scriptures say, “God became angry and told the people, ‘You will never enter my place of rest!’ ” God said this, even though everything has been ready from the time of creation.

God looked at what he had done. All of it was very good! Evening came and then morning—that was the sixth day.

In his anger, God told them, “You people will never enter my place of rest.”

In six days I made the sky, the earth, the seas, and everything in them, but on the seventh day I rested. That's why I made the Sabbath a special day that belongs to me.

He promised you perfect peace and rest, but you refused to listen.

The LORD said: My people, when you stood at the crossroads, I told you, “Follow the road your ancestors took, and you will find peace.” But you refused.

I will separate the sinful rebels from the rest of you, and even though I will bring them from the nations where they live in exile, they won't be allowed to return to Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.

So God's promise came true, just as the prophet had said, “I will use stories to speak my message and to explain things that have been hidden since the creation of the world.”

Then the king will say to those on his right, “My father has blessed you! Come and receive the kingdom that was prepared for you before the world was created.

Before the world was created, God had Christ choose us to live with him and to be his holy and innocent and loving people.

God became angry and told the people, ‘You will never enter my place of rest!’ ”

We were sure about Christ when we first became his people. So let's hold tightly to our faith until the end.

If he had offered himself every year, he would have suffered many times since the creation of the world. But instead, near the end of time he offered himself once and for all, so that he could be a sacrifice that does away with sin.

Christ was chosen even before the world was created, but because of you, he did not come until these last days.
