his father Jacob said to him, “I want you to go to your brothers. They are with the sheep near Shechem.” “Yes, sir,” Joseph answered.
Some years later God decided to test Abraham, so he spoke to him. Abraham answered, “Here I am, LORD.”
But the LORD's angel shouted from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am!” he answered.
After Isaac had become old and almost blind, he called in his firstborn son Esau, who asked him, “Father, what can I do for you?”
Jacob went to his father and said, “Father, here I am.” “Which one of my sons are you?” his father asked.
After leaving northern Syria, Jacob arrived safely at Shechem in Canaan and set up camp outside the city.
One day when Joseph's brothers had taken the sheep to a pasture near Shechem,
I am sending you like lambs into a pack of wolves. So be as wise as snakes and as innocent as doves.
The owner then said to himself, “What am I going to do? I know what. I'll send my son, the one I love so much. They will surely respect him!”
But Eli told him, “Samuel, my boy, come here!” “Here I am,” Samuel answered.
When the LORD called out his name for the third time, Samuel went to Eli again and said, “Here I am. What do you want?” Eli finally realized that it was the LORD who was speaking to Samuel.
