in the name of the LORD, who rules heaven and earth, that you won't choose a wife for my son Isaac from the people here in the land of Canaan.

and said to Abram: “I bless you in the name of God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.

Abram answered: The LORD God Most High made the heavens and the earth. And I have promised him

Now I want you to promise in the name of God that you will always be loyal to me and my descendants, just as I have always been loyal to you in this land where you have lived as a foreigner.”

The LORD who rules heaven brought me here from the land where I was born and promised that he would give this land to my descendants for ever. When you go back there, the LORD will send his angel ahead of you to help you find a wife for my son.

Rebekah later told Isaac, “Those Hittite wives of Esau are making my life miserable! If Jacob marries a Hittite woman, I'd be better off dead.”

Isaac called in Jacob, then gave him a blessing, and said: Don't marry any of those Canaanite women.

Esau already had several wives, but he realized at last how much his father hated the Canaanite women.

Why don't you start letting your families marry into our families and ours marry into yours?

While there he met the daughter of Shua, a Canaanite man. Judah married her,

“Will you give me your word?” Jacob asked. “Yes, I will,” Joseph promised. After this, Jacob bowed down and prayed at the head of his bed.

Now promise me that you will take my body with you when God leads you to that land.”

The children of the supernatural beings who had married these women became famous heroes and warriors. They were called Nephilim and lived on the earth at that time and even later.

He prayed: LORD God of Israel, your throne is above the winged creatures. You created the heavens and the earth, and you alone rule the kingdoms of this world.

Praise the LORD God of Israel who made heaven and earth! He has given David a son who is not only wise and clever, but who has the knowledge to build a temple for the LORD and a palace for himself.

They claimed to be servants of the God who rules heaven and earth. And they said they were rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago by one of Israel's greatest kings.

So in my anger, I called down curses on those men. I had them beaten and even pulled out the hair of some of them. Then I made them promise: In the name of God we solemnly promise not to let our sons and daughters marry foreigners.

You alone are the LORD, Creator of the heavens and all the stars, Creator of the earth and those who live on it, Creator of the ocean and all its creatures. You are the source of life, praised by the stars that fill the heavens.

May the LORD who created the heavens and the earth give you his blessing.

Praise God in heaven! God's love never fails.

Do not misuse my name. I am the LORD your God, and I will punish anyone who misuses my name.

If you swear with me as your witness that you did not harm the animal, you do not have to replace it. Your word is enough.

Make certain that you obey everything I have said. Don't pray to other gods or even mention their names.

Your men will even marry their women and be influenced to worship their gods.

I have made a solemn promise, one that won't be broken: everyone will bow down and worship me.

People of Israel, you come from Jacob's family and the tribe of Judah. You claim to worship me, the LORD God of Israel, but you are lying.

I am God! I can be trusted. Your past troubles are gone; I no longer think of them. When you pray for someone to receive a blessing, or when you make a promise, you must do it in my name. I alone am the God who can be trusted.

You told me to say that idols did not create the heavens and the earth, and that you, the LORD, will destroy every idol.

They once taught my people to worship Baal. But if they admit I am the only true God, and if they let my people teach them how to worship me, these nations will also become my people.

Get married and have children, then help your sons find wives and help your daughters find husbands, so they can have children as well. I want your numbers to grow, not to get smaller.

Make promises only in my name, and do what you promise! Then all nations will praise me, and I will bless them.

Do not misuse my name by making promises you don't intend to keep. I am the LORD your God.

Not a trace will be found of those who worship stars from their rooftops, or bow down to the god Milcom, while claiming loyalty to me, the LORD.

A wife should stay married to her husband until he dies. Then she is free to marry again, but only to a man who is a follower of the Lord.

Respect the LORD your God, serve only him, and make promises in his name alone.

Worship and obey the LORD your God with fear and trembling, and promise that you will be loyal to him.

When anyone wants to settle an argument, they make a vow by using the name of someone or something greater than themselves.

Please promise me in the LORD's name that you will be as kind to my family as I have been to you. Do something to show

His parents answered, “There are a lot of women in our clan and even more in the rest of Israel. Those Philistines are pagans. Why would you want to marry one of their women?” “She looks good to me,” Samson answered. “Get her for me!”

Jonathan thought as much of David as he did of himself, so he asked David to promise once more that he would be a loyal friend.

“Will you take me to those Amalekites?” David asked. “Yes, I will, if you promise with God as a witness that you won't kill me or hand me over to my master.”
