Genesis 21:9

One day, Sarah noticed Hagar's son Ishmael playing, and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that Egyptian slave woman and her son! I don't want him to inherit anything. It should all go to my son.”

Abram's wife Sarai had not been able to have any children. But she owned a young Egyptian slave woman named Hagar,

Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar gave birth to their son, and he named him Ishmael.

I have heard what you asked me to do for Ishmael, and so I will also bless him with many descendants. He will be the father of twelve princes, and I will make his family a great nation.

The time came when Sarah no longer had to nurse Isaac, and on that day Abraham gave a big feast.

The messengers went to every town in Ephraim and West Manasseh as far north as the territory of Zebulun, but everyone laughed and insulted them.

But the people only laughed and insulted these prophets. They ignored what the LORD God was trying to tell them, until he finally became so angry that nothing could stop him from punishing Judah and Jerusalem.

Young people now insult me, although their fathers would have been a disgrace to my sheep dogs.

But I am merely a worm, far less than human, and I am hated and rejected by people everywhere.

Even my bones are in pain, while all day long my enemies sneer and ask, “Where is your God?”

The good or bad that children do shows what they are like.

Arguments and fights will come to an end, if you chase away those who insult others.

Her people recall the good life that once was theirs; now they suffer and are scattered. No one was there to protect them from their enemies who sneered when their city was taken.

In the Scriptures we learn that Abraham had two sons. The mother of one of them was a slave, while the mother of the other one had always been free.

But the child who was born in the natural way made trouble for the child who was born because of the Spirit. The same thing is happening today.

Others were made fun of and beaten with whips, and some were chained in jail.
