The LORD God placed all kinds of beautiful trees and fruit trees in the garden. Two other trees were in the middle of the garden. One of the trees gave life—the other gave the power to know the difference between right and wrong.

Her husband is a prophet. Let her go back to him, and his prayers will save you from death. But if you don't return her, you and all your people will die.

“How did you know you were naked?” God asked. “Did you eat any fruit from that tree in the middle of the garden?”

The LORD said to the man, “You listened to your wife and ate fruit from that tree. And so, the ground will be under a curse because of what you did. As long as you live, you will have to struggle to grow enough food.

You will have to sweat to earn a living; you were made out of soil, and you will once again turn into soil.”

If you ever cross Kidron Valley and leave Jerusalem, you will be killed. And it will be your own fault.”

Sin is what gives death its sting, and the Law is the power behind sin.

Anyone who tries to please God by obeying the Law is under a curse. The Scriptures say, “Everyone who doesn't obey everything in the Law is under a curse.”

Light shows up everything, just as the Scriptures say, “Wake up from your sleep and rise from death. Then Christ will shine on you.”

Today I am giving you a choice. You can choose life and success or death and disaster.

Now I call the sky and the earth to be witnesses that I am offering you this choice. Will you choose for the LORD to make you prosperous and give you a long life? Or will he put you under a curse and kill you? Choose life!

You were dead, because you were sinful and were not God's people. But God let Christ make you alive, when he forgave all our sins.

A widow who thinks only about having a good time is already dead, even though she is still alive.

Our desires make us sin, and when sin is finished with us, it leaves us dead.

I swear by the living LORD that whoever sinned must die, even if it turns out to be my own son Jonathan.” No one said a word.

“Yes, Jonathan. I swear to God that you must die.”

You'll never be safe, and your kingdom will be in danger as long as that son of Jesse is alive. Turn him over to me now! He deserves to die!”

“Ahimelech,” Saul said, “you and your whole family are going to die.”
