Finally, Abraham said, “Please don't get angry, LORD, if I speak just once more. Suppose you find only ten good people there.” “For the sake of ten good people,” the LORD told him, “I still won't destroy the city.”

Abraham said, “Please don't be angry, LORD, if I ask you what you will do if there are only thirty good people in the city.” “If I find thirty,” the LORD replied, “I still won't destroy it.”

Then Abraham said, “I don't have any right to ask you, LORD, but what would you do if you find only twenty?” “Because of them, I won't destroy the city,” was the LORD's answer.

Judah went over to Joseph and said: Sir, you have as much power as the king himself, and I am only your slave. Please don't get angry if I speak.

One of a thousand angels then comes to our rescue by saying we are innocent.

You willingly forgive, and your love is always there for those who pray to you.

So even though the LORD had threatened to destroy the people, he changed his mind and let them live.

The LORD is disgusted by gifts from the wicked, but it makes him happy when his people pray.

Here is what the LORD says: A cluster of grapes that produces wine is worth keeping! So, because of my servants, I won't destroy everyone.

“Search Jerusalem for honest people who try to be faithful. If you can find even one, I'll forgive the whole city.

Our God, no one is like you. We are all that is left of your chosen people, and you freely forgive our sin and guilt. You don't stay angry for ever; you're glad to have pity

Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you.

I pray that Christ Jesus and the church will for ever bring praise to God. His power at work in us can do far more than we dare ask or imagine. Amen.

But Gideon prayed to God again. “Don't be angry with me,” Gideon said. “Let me try this just one more time, so I'll really be sure you'll help me. Only this time, let the wool be dry and the stone floor be wet with dew.”
