Don't be fooled by Hezekiah! No god of any nation has ever been able to stand up to Assyria. Believe me, your God cannot keep you safe!

The officials talked about the LORD God as if he were nothing but an ordinary god or an idol that someone had made.

You knew that the King of Egypt and his officials and his nation had ill-treated your people. So you worked fearsome miracles against the Egyptians and earned a reputation that still remains.

What do we gain from praying and worshipping you?

Only a fool would say, “There is no God!” People like that are worthless; they are heartless and cruel and never do right.

But I know that the king of Egypt won't let you go unless something forces him to.

“The LORD is going to do something to show you that he really is the LORD. I will strike the Nile with this stick, and the water will turn into blood.

If I have too much to eat, I might forget about you; if I don't have enough, I might steal and disgrace your name.

But you might keep on saying, “We won't stay here in Judah, and we won't obey the LORD our God.

People of Moab, you claim to be stronger than I am. Now I will tell other nations to make you drunk and to laugh while you collapse in your own vomit.

Now I am going to give you one more chance. If you bow down and worship the statue when you hear the music, everything will be all right. But if you don't, you will at once be thrown into a flaming furnace. No god can save you from me.”
