When our ancestors were in Egypt, you saw their suffering; when they were at the Red Sea, you heard their cry for help.

You answered their prayers when they were in trouble.

Our LORD, you are true to your promises, and your word is like silver heated seven times in a fiery furnace.

and whenever I feel low, you are there to guide me. A trap has been hidden along my pathway.

You satisfy the desires of all your worshippers, and you come to save them when they ask for help.

The LORD doesn't hate or despise the helpless in all their troubles. When I cried out, he listened and did not turn away.

I asked the LORD for help, and he saved me from all my fears.

I was a nobody, but I prayed, and the LORD saved me from all my troubles.

You see everything, LORD! Please don't keep silent or stay so far away.

and I will sing about you at the gate to Zion. I will be happy there because you rescued me.

The Egyptians put slave bosses in charge of the people of Israel and tried to wear them down with hard work. Those bosses forced them to build the cities of Pithom and Rameses, where the king could store his supplies.

Many years later a new king came to power. He did not know what Joseph had done for Egypt,

If you do, they will beg for my help, and I will come to their rescue.

If this is true, let me know what your plans are, then I can obey and continue to please you. And don't forget that you have chosen this nation to be your own.”

The slave bosses and the men in charge of the slaves went out and told them, “The king says he will not give you any more straw.

That same day the king gave orders to his slave bosses and to the men directly in charge of the Israelite slaves. He told them:

It troubled the LORD to see them in trouble, and his angel saved them. The LORD was truly merciful, so he rescued his people. He took them in his arms and carried them all those years.

and when we begged our LORD for help, he answered our prayer and brought us out of that land. Now we are camped at the border of your territory, near the town of Kadesh.

With my own eyes I have seen the suffering of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groans and have come down to rescue them. Now I am sending you back to Egypt.”

Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. But he did not sin!

“I've seen how my people are suffering, and I've heard their call for help. About this time tomorrow I'll send you a man from the tribe of Benjamin, who will rescue my people from the Philistines. I want you to pour olive oil on his head to show that he will be their leader.”
