Amram was the father of Aaron, Moses, and Miriam. Aaron had four sons: Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

The LORD came down to the top of Mount Sinai and told Moses to meet him there.

Then the LORD told Moses, “Go down and bring Aaron back here with you. But the priests and people must not try to push their way through, or I will rush at them like a flood!”

The LORD said to Moses, “I will come to you in a thick cloud and let the people hear me speak to you. Then they will always trust you.” Again Moses reported to the people what the LORD had told him.

But when Moses went near the thick cloud where God was, the people stayed a long way off.

When Moses went up on Mount Sinai, a cloud covered it,

but you are to come near. Don't let anyone else come up.”

Moses and Aaron, together with Nadab and Abihu and the seventy leaders, went up the mountain

Send for your brother Aaron and his sons Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. They are the ones I have chosen from Israel to serve as my priests.

God replied, “Don't come any closer. Take off your sandals—the ground where you are standing is holy.

Be ready tomorrow morning to come up Mount Sinai and meet me at the top.

Aaron married Elisheba. She was the daughter of Amminadab and the sister of Nahshon; they had four sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

Seventy Israelite leaders were standing there, including Jaazaniah son of Shaphan. Each of these leaders was holding an incense burner, and the smell of incense filled the room.

The LORD said to Moses: Choose seventy of Israel's respected leaders and go with them to the sacred tent.

Later the Lord chose seventy-two other followers and sent them out two by two to every town and village where he was about to go.

When the seventy-two followers returned, they were excited and said, “Lord, even the demons obeyed when we spoke in your name!”

Then I took these men, who were already wise and respected leaders, and I appointed them as your official leaders. Some of them became military officers in charge of groups of a thousand, or a hundred, or fifty, or ten,
