The LORD gave Moses the following laws for his people:

If you obey my commands and do what I say, I will keep the promise I made to your father David. I will live among my people Israel in this temple you are building, and I will not desert them.

The people of Judah will bring you legal cases that involve every type of crime, including murder. You must settle these cases and warn the people to stop sinning against the LORD, so that he won't get angry and punish Judah. Remember, if you follow these instructions, you won't be held responsible for anything that happens.

God gave his laws and teachings to the descendants of Jacob, the nation of Israel.

After Moses went back, he reported to the leaders what the LORD had said,

I gave them my laws and teachings, so they would know how to live right.

I gave them laws that bring punishment instead of life,

Now don't do these sickening things that make the land filthy. Instead, obey my laws and teachings.

Obey them and you will live. I am the LORD.

and I command you to obey my laws.

Obey my laws and teachings. Or else the land I am giving you will become sick of you and throw you out.

Don't ever forget the laws and teachings I gave my servant Moses on Mount Sinai.

These are the laws that the LORD gave to Moses and the Israelites while they were camped in the lowlands of Moab across the River Jordan from Jericho.

and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world.

If any of you buy Israelites as slaves, you must set them free after six years.

That's when the LORD commanded me to give you the laws and teachings you must obey in the land that you will conquer west of the River Jordan.

No other nation has laws that are as fair as the ones the Lord my God told me to give you. If you faithfully obey them when you enter the land, you will show other nations how wise you are. In fact, everyone who hears about your laws will say, “That great nation certainly is wise!” And what makes us greater than other nations? We have a God who is close to us and answers our prayers.

Moses called together the people of Israel and said: Today I am telling you the laws and teachings that you must follow, so listen carefully.

but you come back here to me. After I tell you my laws and teachings, you will repeat them to the people, so they can obey these laws in the land I am giving them.

The LORD told me to give you these laws and teachings, so you can obey them in the land he is giving you. Soon you will cross the River Jordan and take that land.

Some day your children will ask, “Why did the LORD give us these laws and teachings?”

Finally, my dear friends, since you belong to the Lord Jesus, we beg and urge you to live as we taught you. Then you will please God. You are already living that way, but try even harder.
