Wait until you hear a sound like troops marching through the tops of the trees. Then attack quickly! That sound will mean I have marched out ahead of you to fight the Philistine army.

Even powerful rulers die in the darkness of night when they least expect it, just like the rest of us.

Have you rejected us and deserted our armies?

The descendants of Joseph were told to obey it, when God led them out from the land of Egypt. In a language unknown to me, I heard someone say:

That same night I will pass through Egypt and kill the firstborn son in every family and the firstborn male of all animals. I am the LORD, and I will punish the gods of Egypt.

During that night the LORD will go through the country of Egypt and kill the firstborn son in every Egyptian family. He will see where you have put the blood, and he will not come into your house. His angel that brings death will pass over and not kill your firstborn sons.

At midnight the LORD killed the firstborn son of every Egyptian family, from the son of the king to the son of every prisoner in jail. He also killed the firstborn male of every animal that belonged to the Egyptians.

The LORD is marching out like an angry soldier, shouting with all his might while attacking his enemies.

I did terrible things to you, just as I did to Egypt— I killed your young men in war; I let your horses be stolen, and I made your camp stink with dead bodies. Even then you rejected me. I, the LORD, have spoken!

Your vineyards will be filled with crying and weeping, because I will punish you. I, the LORD, have spoken!

I will break down the gate and lead them out— then I will be their king.

Then in the middle of the night someone shouted, “Here's the groom! Come to meet him!”
