I did this because I want you to tell your children and your grandchildren about my miracles and about my harsh treatment of the Egyptians. Then all of you will know that I am the LORD.

LORD All-Powerful, you are greater than all others. No one is like you, and you alone are God. Everything we have heard about you is true.

Our God, our ancestors told us what wonders you worked and we listened carefully.

You chased off the nations by causing them trouble with your powerful arm. Then you let our ancestors take over their land.

Everyone will say, “It's true! Good people are rewarded. God does rule the earth with justice.”

Don't leave me when I am old and my hair turns grey. Let me tell future generations about your mighty power.

These are things we learnt from our ancestors,

In the future your children will ask what this ceremony means. Explain it to them by saying, “The LORD used his mighty power to rescue us from slavery in Egypt.

The Egyptians will know for sure that I am the LORD.”

I will make the king stubborn again, and he will try to catch you. Then I will destroy him and his army. People everywhere will praise me for my victory, and the Egyptians will know that I really am the LORD. The Israelites obeyed the LORD and camped where he told them.

“The LORD is going to do something to show you that he really is the LORD. I will strike the Nile with this stick, and the water will turn into blood.

When this happens, the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.

Aaron obeyed, and suddenly frogs were everywhere in Egypt.

Only the living can thank you, as I am doing today. Each generation tells the next about your faithfulness.

and I let them offer me unacceptable sacrifices, including their firstborn sons. I did this to horrify them and to let them know that I, the LORD, was punishing them.

by offering sacrifices, incense, and wine to gods on every hill and under every large tree. I was very angry, because they did these things in the land I had given them!

Tell our children! Let it be told to our grandchildren and their children too.

Parents, don't be hard on your children. Raise them properly. Teach them and instruct them about the Lord.

You must be very careful not to forget the things you have seen God do for you. Keep reminding yourselves, and tell your children and grandchildren as well.
