But when the LORD came down to look at the city and the tower,

Nothing about me is hidden from you! I was secretly woven together deep in the earth below,

I didn't come from heaven to do what I want! I came to do what the Father wants me to do. He sent me,

The people started grumbling because Jesus had said he was the bread that had come down from heaven.

I am that bread from heaven! Everyone who eats it will live for ever. My flesh is the life-giving bread that I give to the people of this world.

The bread that comes down from heaven isn't like what your ancestors ate. They died, but whoever eats this bread will live for ever.

What if you should see the Son of Man go up to heaven where he came from?

Jesus replied: Even if I do speak for myself, what I say is true! I know where I came from and where I am going. But you don't know where I am from or where I am going.

You made us lower than the angels for a while. Yet you have crowned us with glory and honour.

What we do see is Jesus, who for a little while was made lower than the angels. Because of God's wonderful kindness, Jesus died for everyone. And now that Jesus has suffered and died, he is crowned with glory and honour!
