You may live a long time and have a hundred children. But a child born dead is better off than you, unless you enjoy life and have a decent burial.

When Esau noticed the women and children he asked, “Whose children are these?” Jacob answered, “These are the ones the LORD has been kind enough to give to me, your servant.”

Jacob answered, “I have lived only a hundred and thirty years, and I have had to move from place to place. My parents and my grandparents also had to move from place to place. But they lived much longer, and their life was not as hard as mine.”

I wish I had been born dead and then buried, never to see the light of day.

Let them dry up like snails or be like a child that dies before seeing the sun.

Grandparents are proud of their grandchildren, and children should be proud of their parents.

But those who have never been born are better off than anyone else, because they have never seen the terrible things that happen on this earth.”

That child will never live to see the sun or to have a name, and it will go straight to the world of darkness. But it will still find more rest than you,

You will be given a burial fit for a donkey; your body will be dragged outside the city gates and tossed in the dust. I, the LORD, have spoken.

So I, the LORD, promise that you will be killed and your body thrown out on the ground. The sun will beat down on it during the day, and the frost will settle on it at night. And none of your descendants will ever be king of Judah.

who loved and worshipped the sun, moon, and stars. These bones will be scattered and left lying on the ground like rubbish, where the sun and moon and stars can shine on them.

The Son of Man will die, as the Scriptures say. But it's going to be terrible for the one who betrays me! That man would be better off if he had never been born.”
