and I prayed: Our LORD, please don't wipe out your people. You used your great power to rescue them from Egypt and to make them your very own.

And there is no other nation on earth like Israel, the nation you rescued from slavery in Egypt to be your own. You became famous by using great and wonderful miracles to force other nations and their gods out of your land, so your people could live here.

Remember, they are the people you chose and rescued from Egypt that was like a blazing fire to them.

When you brought our ancestors out of Egypt, you told your servant Moses to say to them, “From all people on earth, the LORD God has chosen you to be his very own.”

Our LORD, I am praying for your servants—those you rescued by your great strength and mighty power.

You were angry and started to destroy them, but Moses, your chosen leader, begged you not to do it.

Everyone the LORD has rescued from trouble should praise him,

Come, save us and bless us. Be our shepherd and always carry us in your arms.

God Most High, have pity on me! Have mercy. I run to you for safety. In the shadow of your wings, I seek protection till danger dies down.

With your own arm you rescued your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.

They remembered God Most High, the mighty rock that kept them safe.

Moses and Aaron were two of your priests. Samuel was also one of those who prayed in your name, and you, our LORD, answered their prayers.

The people you rescued were led by your powerful love to your holy place.

If this is true, let me know what your plans are, then I can obey and continue to please you. And don't forget that you have chosen this nation to be your own.”

He prayed, “LORD, if you really are pleased with me, I pray that you will go with us. It is true that these people are sinful and rebellious, but forgive our sin and let us be your people.”

Tell the heavens and the earth to start singing! Tell the mountains and every tree in the forest to join in the song! The LORD has rescued his people; now they will worship him.

We act as though you had never ruled us or called us your people.

If you save us, it will show how great you are. Don't let our enemies disgrace your temple, your beautiful throne. Don't forget that you promised to rescue us.

The LORD said to me: Even if Moses and Samuel were here, praying with you, I wouldn't change my mind. So send the people of Judah away.

Think about it, LORD! Have you ever been this cruel to anyone before? Is it right for mothers to eat their children, or for priests and prophets to be killed in your temple?

I rescued you from Egypt, where you were slaves. I sent Moses, Aaron, and Miriam to be your leaders.

because he rescued you from slavery in Egypt. If a prophet tells you to disobey the LORD your God and to stop worshipping him, then that prophet is evil and must be put to death.

I am commanding you to obey the LORD as a reminder that you were slaves in Egypt before he set you free.

But since an innocent person was murdered, we beg you, our LORD, to accept this sacrifice and forgive Israel. We are your people, and you rescued us. Please don't hold this crime against us.” If you obey the LORD and do these things, he will forgive Israel.

but the LORD himself takes care of Israel.

but the LORD chose you because he loves you and because he had made a promise to your ancestors. Then with his mighty arm, he rescued you from the king of Egypt, who had made you his slaves.

he said: Moses, hurry down the mountain to those people you led out of Egypt. They have already disobeyed me and committed the terrible sin of making an idol.

Israel's ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob obeyed you faithfully. Think about them, and not about Israel's stubbornness, evil, and sin.

But you, our LORD, chose the people of Israel to be your own, and with your mighty power you rescued them from Egypt.

He gave himself to rescue us from everything that is evil and to make our hearts pure. He wanted us to be his own people and to be eager to do right.

Then Christ went once for all into the most holy place and freed us from sin for ever. He did this by offering his own blood instead of the blood of goats and bulls.

Then they sang a new song, “You are worthy to receive the scroll and open its seals, because you were killed. And with your own blood you bought for God people from every tribe, language, nation, and race.

Samuel begged the LORD to rescue Israel, then he sacrificed a young lamb to the LORD. Samuel had not even finished offering the sacrifice when the Philistines started to attack. But the LORD answered his prayer and made thunder crash all around them. The Philistines panicked and ran away.
