I have not eaten any of this sacred food while I was in mourning; in fact, I never touched it when I was unclean. And none of it has been offered as a sacrifice to the spirits of the dead. I have done everything exactly as you commanded.

Your people became followers of a god named Baal-Peor, and they ate sacrifices offered to the dead.

I keep your laws in mind and never look away from your teachings.

No one will bring food and wine to help comfort those who are mourning the death of their father or mother.

Mourn in silence and don't show that you are grieving. Don't remove your turban or take off your sandals; don't cover your face to show your sorrow, or eat the food that mourners eat.”

You won't be able to offer sacrifices of wine to the LORD. None of your sacrifices will please him— they will be unclean like food offered to the dead. Your food will only be used to satisfy your hunger; none of it will be brought to the LORD's temple.

The LORD gave Moses these instructions for Aaron's sons, the priests: Touching a dead body will make you unclean. So don't go near a dead relative,

Don't make yourself unclean by going near a dead body, not even that of your own father or mother.

But don't eat any of this meat if you have become unclean by touching something unclean from a human or an animal or from any other creature. If you do, you will no longer belong to the community of Israel.

And what else are you doing? You cry noisily and flood the LORD's altar with your tears, because he isn't pleased with your offerings and refuses to accept them.

because he rescued you from slavery in Egypt. If a prophet tells you to disobey the LORD your God and to stop worshipping him, then that prophet is evil and must be put to death.

Then you must pray: Our LORD and our God, you have said that ten per cent of my harvest is sacred. I have obeyed your command and given this to the poor, including the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows.

Our LORD, look down from your temple in heaven and bless your people Israel. You promised our ancestors that you would give us this land rich with milk and honey, and you have kept your promise.
