Each year there are three festivals when all Israelite men must go to the place where the LORD chooses to be worshipped. These are the Festival of Thin Bread, the Harvest Festival, and the Festival of Shelters. And don't forget to take along a gift for the LORD.

He is wonderful! Praise him and bring an offering into his temple.

I will force the nations out of your land and enlarge your borders. Then no one will try to take your property when you come to worship me these three times each year.

to say to the community of Israel: Beginning on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, and continuing for seven days, everyone must celebrate the Festival of Shelters in honour of me.

The bigger the harvest the LORD gives you, the bigger your gift should be.

Once a year Elkanah travelled from his home town to Shiloh, where he worshipped the LORD All-Powerful and offered sacrifices. Eli was the LORD's priest there, and his two sons Hophni and Phinehas served with him as priests.

They also learnt that they were to go into the woods and gather branches of leafy trees such as olives, myrtles, and palms for making these shelters.

Your people grow stronger, and you, the God of gods, will be seen in Zion.

Every tribe of the LORD obeys him and comes to you to praise his name.

During the seventh month of the year, the Israelites who had settled in their towns went to Jerusalem.

LORD God All-Powerful, the God of Jacob, please answer my prayer!

Look to Mount Zion where we celebrate our religious festivals. You will see Jerusalem, secure as a tent with pegs that cannot be pulled up and fastened with ropes that can never be broken.

The towns that now lie in ruins will be filled with people, just as Jerusalem was once filled with sheep to be offered as sacrifices during a festival. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
