Please show mercy to your chosen city, not because we deserve it, but because of your great kindness.

This is the temple where you have chosen to be worshipped. Please watch over it day and night and listen when I turn towards it and pray.

But just look how Sennacherib has insulted you, the living God.

I love you, LORD! You answered my prayers.

Please, LORD, remember, you have always been patient and kind.

The LORD said: I have seen how my people are suffering as slaves in Egypt, and I have heard them beg for my help because of the way they are being ill-treated. I feel sorry for them,

Just look and see how Sennacherib has insulted you, the living God.

They are my people— I created each of them to bring honour to me.”

When you see these things, how can you just sit there and make us suffer more?

We are unfit to worship you; each of our good deeds is merely a filthy rag. We dry up like leaves; our sins are storm winds sweeping us away.

Our terrible sins may demand that we be punished. But if you rescue us, LORD, everyone will see how great you are.

Did this disaster take you by surprise? Are you a warrior with your hands tied? You have chosen us, and your temple is here. Don't abandon us!

When you spoke to me, I was glad to obey, because I belong to you, the LORD All-Powerful.

Starting with my own city of Jerusalem, everyone on earth will suffer from war. So there is no way I will let you escape unharmed.”

The LORD is furious, and if the people hear how he is going to punish them, perhaps they will ask to be forgiven.

Please, don't send me back to that prison at Jonathan's house. If you do, I will die.”

so tell the Israelites that I am saying: You have disgraced my holy name among the nations where you now live. So you don't deserve what I'm going to do for you. I will lead you home to bring honour to my name

People of Israel, I'm not doing these things for your sake. You sinned against me, and you must suffer shame and disgrace for what you have done. I, the LORD God, have spoken.

Everything you do is right, our Lord. But still we suffer public disgrace because we have been unfaithful and have sinned against you. This includes all of us, both far and near—the people of Judah, Jerusalem, and Israel, as well as those you dragged away to foreign lands,

Then the LORD said, “If Aaron and his sons ask me to bless the Israelites, I will give them my blessing.”
