God said, “Ezekiel, do you see what horrible things Israel's leaders are doing in secret? They have filled their rooms with idols. And they say I can't see them, because they think I have already deserted Israel.

God said, “Ezekiel, it's bad enough that the people of Judah are doing these disgusting things. But they have also spread violence and injustice everywhere in Israel and have made me very angry. They have disgraced and insulted me in the worst possible way.

God then said, “Do you see the terrible sins of the people of Israel? Their sins are making my holy temple unfit as a place to worship me. Yet you will see even worse things than this.”

Israel, the time has come. You will get what you deserve, and you will know it. “Prophets are fools,” you say. “And God's messengers are mad.” Your terrible guilt has filled you with hatred.

Then he asked, “Amos, what do you see?” “A measuring line,” I answered. The LORD said, “I'm using this measuring line to show that my people Israel don't measure up, and I won't forgive them any more.

The LORD God showed me a basket of ripe fruit

I feel so empty inside— like someone starving for grapes or figs, after the vines and trees have all been picked clean.

and the angel asked, “What do you see?” “A flying scroll,” I answered. “About nine metres long and four and a half metres wide.”
