Of all nations on earth, you are the only one I have chosen. That's why I will punish you because of your sins.

This completes the list of Noah's descendants. After the flood their descendants became nations and spread all over the world.

Our enemies refuse to admit that you are God or to worship you. They have wiped out our people and left our nation lying in ruins. So get angry and sweep them away!

But I will punish them. Their young men will die in battle, and their children will starve to death.

You once trusted them to help, but now I'll let them rule you. What do you say about that? You will be in pain like a woman giving birth.

My people, you love to wander away; you don't even try to stay close to me. So now I will reject you and punish you for your sins. I, the LORD, have spoken.

Some day I will punish the nations of Egypt, Edom, Ammon, and Moab, and the tribes of the desert. The men of these nations are circumcised, but they don't worship me. And it's the same with you people of Judah. Your bodies are circumcised, but your hearts are unchanged.

for your sins. Your punishment will be more horrible than anything I've ever done or will ever do again.

You warned us and our leaders that Jerusalem would suffer the worst disaster in human history, and you did exactly as you had threatened.

I'll punish her for the days she worshipped Baal and burnt incense to him. I'll punish her for the times she forgot about me and wore jewellery and rings to attract her lovers. I, the LORD, have spoken!

Israel, I know-all about you, and because of your unfaithfulness, I find you unacceptable.

You sacrifice your best animals and eat the sacrificial meals, but I, the LORD, refuse your offerings. I will remember your sins and punish you. Then you will return to Egypt.

You are brutal and corrupt, as were the men of Gibeah. But God remembers your sin, and you will be punished.

The LORD said: I will punish Judah for countless crimes, and I won't change my mind. They have rejected my teachings and refused to obey me. They were led astray by the same false gods their ancestors worshipped.

Can two people walk together without agreeing to meet?

Do you rulers in Jerusalem and in the city of Samaria feel safe and at ease? Everyone bows down to you, and you think you are better than any other nation. But you are in for trouble!

But here is what the LORD says: “I am planning trouble for you. Your necks will be caught in a noose, and you will be disgraced in this time of disaster.”

You were nothing more than a prostitute using your magical charms and witchcraft to attract and trap nations.

From one person God made all nations who live on earth, and he decided when and where every nation would be.

All who are wicked will be punished with trouble and suffering. It doesn't matter if they are Jews or Gentiles.

But God has no doubts about who loves him.

Yet the LORD loved your ancestors and wanted them to belong to him. So he chose them and their descendants rather than any other nation, and today you are still his people.

Since you have agreed to obey the LORD, he has agreed that you will be his people and that you will belong to him, just as he promised.

but the LORD himself takes care of Israel.

When the LORD your God brought you out of Egypt, you saw how he fought for you and showed his great power by performing terrifying miracles. You became his people, and at Mount Sinai you heard him talking to you out of fiery flames. And yet you are still alive! Has anything like this ever happened since the time God created humans? No matter where you go or who you ask, you will get the same answer. No one has ever heard of another god even trying to do such things as the LORD your God has done for you.

Israel, you are the chosen people of the LORD your God. There are many nations on this earth, but he chose only Israel to be his very own.

God has already begun judging his own people. And if his judgment begins with us, imagine how terrible it will be for those who refuse to obey his message. The Scriptures say,
