Forty years later, an angel appeared to Moses from a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.

So Elijah sat up and ate and drank. The food and water made him strong enough to walk forty more days. At last, he reached Mount Sinai, the mountain of God,

You sent war chariots to crush our skulls. We travelled through fire and through floods, but you brought us to a land of plenty.

I am the God who was worshipped by your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” Moses was afraid to look at God, and so he hid his face.

It troubled the LORD to see them in trouble, and his angel saved them. The LORD was truly merciful, so he rescued his people. He took them in his arms and carried them all those years.

and the king's high officials, governors, and advisers all crowded around them. The men were not burnt, their hair wasn't scorched, and their clothes didn't even smell like smoke.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, will send my messenger to prepare the way for me. Then suddenly the Lord you are looking for will appear in his temple. The messenger you desire is coming with my promise, and he is on his way.

You know about people being raised to life. You know that in the story about Moses and the burning bush, God said, “I am the God worshipped by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

In the story about the burning bush, Moses clearly shows that people will live again. He said, “The Lord is the God worshipped by Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

Finally, the time came for God to do what he had promised Abraham. By then the number of our people in Egypt had greatly increased.

Moses was surprised by what he saw. He went closer to get a better look, and the Lord said,

“I am the God who was worshipped by your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” Moses started shaking all over and didn't dare to look at the bush.

This was the same Moses that the people rejected by saying, “Who made you our leader and judge?” God's angel had spoken to Moses from the bush. And God had even sent the angel to help Moses rescue the people and be their leader.

Hagar also stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and for the present city of Jerusalem. She and her children are slaves.

The LORD who appeared in the burning bush wants to give you the best the land can produce, and it will be a princely crown on Joseph's head.

But you are the LORD's people, because he led you through fiery trials and rescued you from Egypt.
