I will bless anyone who blesses you, but I will put a curse on anyone who puts a curse on you. Everyone on earth will be blessed because of you.

You have obeyed me, and so you and your descendants will be a blessing to all nations on earth.”

There is good news for the city of Zion. Shout it as loud as you can from the highest mountain. Don't be afraid to shout to the towns of Judah, “Your God is here!”

I was the first to tell the people of Jerusalem, “Look, it's happening!” I was the one who announced this good news to Zion.

What a beautiful sight! On the mountains a messenger announces to Jerusalem, “Good news! You're saved. There will be peace. Your God is now King.”

The Spirit of the LORD God has taken control of me! The LORD has chosen and sent me to tell the oppressed the good news, to heal the brokenhearted, and to announce freedom for prisoners and captives.

But the LORD will still give you proof. A virgin is pregnant; she will have a son and will name him Immanuel.

Some day I will appoint an honest king from the family of David, a king who will be wise and rule with justice.

After that, I will give you a shepherd from the family of my servant King David. All of you, both strong and weak, will have the same shepherd, and he will take good care of you.

Bethlehem Ephrath, you are one of the smallest towns in the nation of Judah. But the LORD will choose one of your people to rule the nation— someone whose family goes back to ancient times.

I will shake the nations, and their treasures will be brought here. Then the brightness of my glory will fill this temple.

In the future there will be a fountain, where David's descendants and the people of Jerusalem can wash away their sin and guilt.

The LORD All-Powerful said: My sword, wake up! Attack my shepherd and friend. Strike down the shepherd! Scatter the little sheep, and I will destroy them.

Tell him that I, the LORD All-Powerful, say, “Someone will reach out from here like a branch and build a temple for me. I will name him ‘Branch’, and he will rule with royal honours. A priest will stand beside his throne, and the two of them will be good friends.

Everyone in Jerusalem, celebrate and shout! Your king has won a victory, and he is coming to you. He is humble and rides on a donkey; he comes on the colt of a donkey.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, will send my messenger to prepare the way for me. Then suddenly the Lord you are looking for will appear in his temple. The messenger you desire is coming with my promise, and he is on his way.

But for you who honour my name, victory will shine like the sun with healing in its rays, and you will jump around like calves at play.

The angel answered, “I am Gabriel, God's servant, and I was sent to tell you this good news.

But the angel said, “Don't be afraid! I have good news for you, which will make everyone happy.

This is the same message that God gave to the people of Israel, when he sent Jesus Christ, the Lord of all, to offer peace to them.

God promised that someone from David's family would come to save the people of Israel, and that one is Jesus.

My friends, the message is that Jesus can forgive your sins! The Law of Moses could not set you free from all your sins.

Why are you doing this? We are humans just like you. Please give up all this foolishness. Turn to the living God, who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in them.

Now I am on trial because I believe the promise God made to our people long ago.

So turn to God! Give up your sins, and you will be forgiven.

Every day they spent time in the temple and in one home after another. They never stopped teaching and telling the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.

that he promised long ago by what his prophets said in the holy Scriptures.

And how can anyone tell them without being sent by the Lord? The Scriptures say it is a beautiful sight to see even the feet of someone coming to preach the good news.

God promised Abraham and his descendants that he would give them the world. This promise wasn't made because Abraham had obeyed a law, but because his faith in God made him acceptable.

They are the descendants of Israel, and they are also God's chosen people. God showed them his glory. He made agreements with them and gave them his Law. The temple is theirs and so are the promises that God made to them.

Instead, he will choose one of your own people to be a prophet just like me, and you must do what that prophet says.
