and have said to his messengers and prophets: Don't tell us what God has shown you and don't preach the truth. Just say what we want to hear, even if it's false.

So God will make sure that they are fooled into believing a lie.

You needed to warn them to stop wasting their time on senseless stories and endless lists of ancestors. Such things only cause arguments. They don't help anyone to do God's work that can only be done by faith.

Don't have anything to do with worthless, senseless stories. Work hard to be truly religious.

Timothy, guard what God has placed in your care! Don't pay any attention to that godless and stupid talk that sounds clever but really isn't.

You know that everyone in Asia has turned against me, especially Phygelus and Hermogenes.

Don't pay any attention to any of those senseless Jewish stories and human commands. These are made up by people who won't obey the truth.

I pray that God will be kind to all of you!

When we told you about the power and the return of our Lord Jesus Christ, we were not telling clever stories that someone had made up. But with our own eyes we saw his true greatness.
