You will have power and rule until nations obey you and come bringing gifts.

You give glorious victories to your chosen king. Your faithful love for David and for his descendants will never end.

I will make sure that one of your descendants will always be king.

After all, you really are Israel's God, the LORD All-Powerful. You've told me that you will let my descendants be kings. That's why I have the courage to pray to you like this, even though I am only your servant.

The LORD made me king in my father's place and promised that the kings of Israel would come from my family. Yes, I swear by the living LORD that Adonijah will die today.

You and your descendants must always faithfully obey the LORD. If you do, he will keep the solemn promise he made to me that someone from our family will always be king of Israel.

But the LORD will bless me and make my father's kingdom strong for ever.

The LORD God promised my father that when his son became king, he would build a temple for worshipping the LORD. So I've decided to do that.

If you obey my commands and do what I say, I will keep the promise I made to your father David. I will live among my people Israel in this temple you are building, and I will not desert them.

Now I have built a glorious temple where you can live for ever.”

You promised that someone from his family would always be king of Israel, if they do their best to obey you, just as he did.

God watches over good people and places them in positions of power and honour for ever.

May the glory of the king shine brightly for ever like the sun in the sky. Let him make nations prosper and learn to praise him.

and I will always be there to help and strengthen him.

“One of David's descendants will always be king, and his family will rule until the sky disappears.

David, one of your descendants will always be king.”

This is what the LORD says: I will answer your prayers because I have set a time when I will help by coming to save you. I have chosen you to take my promise of hope to other nations. You will rebuild the country from its ruins, then people will come and settle there.

A child has been born for us. We have been given a son who will be our ruler. His names will be Wonderful Adviser and Mighty God, Eternal Father and Prince of Peace.

His power will never end; peace will last for ever. He will rule David's kingdom and make it grow strong. He will always rule with honesty and justice. The LORD All-Powerful will make certain that all of this is done.

The king of Israel will be one of David's descendants,

During the time of those kings, the God who rules from heaven will set up an eternal kingdom that will never fall. It will be like the stone that was cut from the mountain, but not by human hands—the stone that crushed the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold. Your Majesty, in your dream the great God has told you what is going to happen, and you can trust this interpretation.

Tell him that I, the LORD All-Powerful, say, “Someone will reach out from here like a branch and build a temple for me. I will name him ‘Branch’, and he will rule with royal honours. A priest will stand beside his throne, and the two of them will be good friends.

So I will call you Peter, which means “a rock”. On this rock I will build my church, and death itself will not have any power over it.

But Jesus deserves more honour than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves more honour than the house.

And now you are living stones that are being used to build a spiritual house. You are also a group of holy priests, and with the help of Jesus Christ you will offer sacrifices that please God.
