One of the Philistine warriors was Ishbibenob, who was a descendant of the Rephaim, and he tried to kill David. Ishbibenob was armed with a new sword, and his bronze spearhead alone weighed about three and a half kilogrammes.

But when he made fun of Israel, David's nephew Jonathan killed him. Jonathan was the son of David's brother Shimei.

David and his soldiers killed these three men from Gath who were descendants of the Rephaim.

You are the one who gives us victory and crushes our enemies.

Here is something else I have learnt: The fastest runners and the greatest heroes don't always win races and battles. Wisdom, intelligence, and skill don't always make you healthy, rich, or popular. We each have our share of bad luck.

The LORD says: Don't boast about your wisdom or strength or wealth.

What can we say about all this? If God is on our side, can anyone be against us?

In everything we have won more than a victory because of Christ who loves us.

So I'm asking you for the hill country that the LORD promised me that day. You were there. You heard the other spies talk about that part of the hill country and the large, walled towns where the Anakim live. But perhaps the LORD will help me take their land, just as he promised.
