David replied, “What will I ever do with you and your brother Joab? If Shimei is cursing me because the LORD has told him to, then who are you to tell him to stop?”

Mephibosheth, the grandson of Saul, also came to meet David. He had missed David so much that he had not taken a bath or trimmed his beard or washed his clothes the whole time David was gone.

“No you won't!” Saul told them. “The LORD rescued Israel today, and no one will be put to death.”

Saul replied, “I swear by the living LORD that nothing will happen to you because of this.”

“Will you take me to those Amalekites?” David asked. “Yes, I will, if you promise with God as a witness that you won't kill me or hand me over to my master.”
