Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, “Joab, let me run and tell King David that the LORD has rescued him from his enemies.”

Zadok, you are a good judge of things, so return to the city and don't cause any trouble. Take your son Ahimaaz with you. Abiathar and his son Jonathan will also go back.

Then they can send their sons Ahimaaz and Jonathan to tell me what you've heard.

Jonathan and Ahimaaz had been waiting at Rogel Spring because they did not want to be seen in Jerusalem. A servant girl went to the spring and gave them the message for David.

Joab answered, “You're not the one to tell the king that his son is dead. You can take him a message some other time, but not today.”

“I'll run no matter what!” Ahimaaz insisted. “All right then, run!” Joab said. Ahimaaz took the road through the Jordan Valley and outran the Ethiopian.

The Ethiopian came and said, “Your Majesty, today I have good news! The LORD has rescued you from all your enemies!”

But you see the trouble and the distress, and you will do something. The poor can count on you, and so can orphans.

You defend orphans and everyone else in need, so that no one on earth can terrify others again.

Get angry, LORD God! Do something! Attack my furious enemies. See that justice is done.

You showed what you are like, and you made certain that justice is done, but evil people are trapped by their own evil deeds.

You take your seat as judge, and your fair decisions prove that I was in the right.

One messenger after another announces to the king, “Babylon has been captured!

Dear friends, don't try to get even. Let God take revenge. In the Scriptures the Lord says, “I am the one to take revenge and pay them back.”
