Then David said: Zadok, take the sacred chest back to Jerusalem. If the LORD is pleased with me, he will bring me back and let me see it and his tent again.

They put the chest inside a tent that David had set up for it. David worshipped the LORD by sacrificing animals and burning them on an altar,

Then one day, as David was talking with Nathan the prophet, David said, “Look around! I live in a palace made of cedar, but the sacred chest has to stay in a tent.”

It made me glad to hear them say, “Let's go to the house of the LORD!”

And because of the house of the LORD our God, I will work for your good.

I love the temple where you live, and where your glory shines.

One day in your temple is better than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather serve in your house, than live in the homes of the wicked.

The people you rescued were led by your powerful love to your holy place.

Moses said to the LORD, “I know that you have told me to lead these people to the land you promised them. But you have not told me who my assistant will be. You have said that you are my friend and that you are pleased with me.

If this is true, let me know what your plans are, then I can obey and continue to please you. And don't forget that you have chosen this nation to be your own.”

Then Hezekiah asked for proof that he would again worship in the LORD's temple.

The LORD told me to say: From my sacred temple I will roar like thunder, while I trample my people and everyone else as though they were grapes.

Don't fool yourselves! My temple is here in Jerusalem, but that doesn't mean I will protect you.
