When the guard in the watchtower at Jezreel saw Jehu and his men riding up, he shouted to the king, “I see some men coming this way.” Joram ordered, “Send someone out to ask them if this is a friendly visit.”

So Joram sent out another rider, who rode up to Jehu and said, “The king wants to know if this is a friendly visit.” “What's it to you?” Jehu asked. “Just get behind me with the rest of my troops!”

You leaders of Israel should be watchdogs, protecting my people. But you can't see a thing, and you never warn them. Dozing and daydreaming are all you ever do.

Jerusalem, on your walls I have stationed guards, whose duty it is to speak out day and night, without resting. They must remind the LORD

Samuel did what the LORD told him and went to Bethlehem. The town leaders went to meet him, but they were terribly afraid and asked, “Is this a friendly visit?”

David left his things with the man in charge of supplies and ran up to the battle line to ask his brothers if they were well.
