Time after time, when the king of Syria was at war against the Israelites, he met with his officers and announced, “I've decided where we will set up camp.”

King Benhadad of Syria called his army together. He was joined by thirty-two other kings with their horses and chariots, and together they marched to Samaria and attacked.

Meanwhile, Benhadad's officials went to him and explained: Israel's gods are mountain gods. We fought Israel's army in the hills, and that's why they defeated us. But if we fight them on flat land, there's no way we can lose.

Benhadad said, “I'll give back the towns my father took from your father. And you can have shops in Damascus, just as my father had in Samaria.” Ahab replied, “If you do these things, I'll let you go free.” Then they signed a peace treaty, and Ahab let Benhadad go.

For the next three years there was peace between Israel and Syria.

The king of Syria had ordered his thirty-two chariot commanders to attack only Ahab.

Some time later, King Benhadad of Syria called his entire army together, then they marched to Samaria and attacked.

“Now get it,” Elisha told him. And the prophet reached in and grabbed it.

Each time, Elisha would send this warning to the king of Israel: “Don't go near there. That's where the Syrian troops have set up camp.”

Be sure you have sound advice before making plans or starting a war.

No matter how much you know or what plans you make, you can't defeat the LORD.

Get together and make plans, but you will fail because God is with us.
