Elijah was a prophet from Tishbe in Gilead. One day he went to King Ahab and said, “I'm a servant of the living LORD, the God of Israel. And I swear in his name that it won't rain until I say so. There won't even be any dew on the ground.”

Elijah said, “I'm a servant of the living LORD All-Powerful, and I swear in his name that I will meet with Ahab today.”

Ahab said, “So, my enemy, you've found me at last.” Elijah answered: Yes, I have! Ahab, you have managed to do everything the LORD hates.

“I am a servant of the living LORD,” Elisha answered, “and I swear that I will not take anything from you.” Naaman kept begging, but Elisha kept refusing.

They hate worthless people, but show respect for all who worship the LORD. And they keep their promises, no matter what the cost.

My power will make you strong like a fortress or a column of iron or a wall of bronze. You will oppose all of Judah, including its kings and leaders, its priests and people.

They sent some of their followers and some of Herod's followers to say to him, “Teacher, we know that you are honest. You teach the truth about what God wants people to do. And you treat everyone with the same respect, no matter who they are.
