After that, he closed down the shrines that Solomon had built east of Jerusalem and south of Spoil Hill to honour Astarte the disgusting goddess of Sidon, Chemosh the disgusting god of Moab, and Milcom the disgusting god of Ammon.

“Solomon and the Israelites are not like their ancestor David. They will not listen to me, obey me, or do what is right. They have turned from me to worship Astarte the goddess of Sidon, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of Ammon.

Solomon also worshipped Astarte the goddess of Sidon, and Milcom the disgusting god of Ammon.

God dearly loved King Solomon of Israel and made him the greatest king on earth, but Solomon's foreign wives led him into sin.

Then you will be ashamed, because your god Chemosh cannot save you, just as Bethel could not help the Israelites.

It won't be long now— disaster will hit Moab!

You thought you could be saved by your power and wealth, but you will be captured along with your god Chemosh, his priests, and officials.

Not a trace will be found of those who worship stars from their rooftops, or bow down to the god Milcom, while claiming loyalty to me, the LORD.

You Moabites are done for! Your god Chemosh deserted your people; they were captured, taken away by King Sihon the Amorite.

Before long, the Israelites began disobeying the LORD by worshipping Baal, Astarte, and gods from Syria, Sidon, Moab, Ammon, and Philistia.

If Chemosh your god takes over a country and gives it to you, don't you have a right to it? And if the LORD takes over a country and gives it to us, the land is ours!

Again your ancestors cried out to the LORD for help. They said, “We have sinned! We stopped worshipping you, our LORD, and started worshipping Baal and Astarte. But now, if you rescue us from our enemies, we will worship you.”

The people got rid of their idols of Baal and Astarte and began worshipping only the LORD.
