I, the LORD All-Powerful, will see to it that some who live in Jerusalem will survive.

His power will never end; peace will last for ever. He will rule David's kingdom and make it grow strong. He will always rule with honesty and justice. The LORD All-Powerful will make certain that all of this is done.

It is the same way now. God was kind to the people of Israel, and so a few of them are still his followers.

And this is what the prophet Isaiah said about the people of Israel, “The people of Israel are as many as the grains of sand along the beach. But only a few who are left will be saved.

A time is coming when the survivors from Israel and Judah will completely depend on the holy LORD of Israel, instead of the nation that defeated them.

The disciples then remembered that the Scriptures say, “My love for your house burns in me like a fire.”

So the angel told me to announce: I, the LORD All-Powerful, am very protective of Jerusalem.

But that would have made me look like a liar, because I had already promised in front of everyone that I would lead them out of Egypt.

You will feel my fierce anger until I have finished taking revenge. Then you will know that I, the LORD, was furious because of your disobedience.

None of you will survive. You may hope to return to Judah some day, but only a very few of you will escape death and be able to go back.

Please, LORD, look down from your holy and glorious home in the heavens and see what's going on. Have you lost interest? Where is your power? Show that you care about us and have mercy!

Justice was the LORD's armour; saving power was his helmet; anger and revenge were his clothes.

Please pray for those of us who are left alive. The king of Assyria sent his army commander to insult the living God. Perhaps the LORD heard what he said and will do something, if you will pray.

One day he was worshipping in the temple of his god Nisroch, when his sons, Adrammelech and Sharezer, killed him with their swords. They escaped to the land of Ararat, and his son Esarhaddon became king.

The Lord will do what he has planned against Jerusalem and Mount Zion. Then he will punish the proud and boastful king of Assyria,

I, the LORD All-Powerful, will see to it that some who live in Jerusalem will survive.

The LORD was deeply concerned about his land and had pity on his people.
