and the prophet from Judah left. Along the way, a lion attacked and killed him, and the donkey and the lion stood there beside his dead body.

and the prophet told him, “You disobeyed the LORD, and as soon as you walk away, a lion will kill you.” The friend left, and suddenly a lion killed him.

A messenger told the king of Assyria, “The people you moved to Israel don't know how to worship the god of that country. So he sent lions that have attacked and killed some of them.”

One of the Israelite priests was chosen to go back to Israel. He lived in Bethel and taught the people how to worship the LORD.

They worshipped their own gods, just as they had before they were taken away to Israel. They also worshipped the LORD, but they chose their own people to be priests at the shrines.

Everyone followed their old customs. None of them worshipped only the LORD, and they refused to obey the laws and commands that the LORD had given to the descendants of Jacob, the man he named Israel.

They did worship the LORD, but they also worshipped their own idols. Their descendants did the same thing.

Elisha turned round and stared at the boys. Then he cursed them in the name of the LORD. Straight away two bears ran out of the woods and ripped to pieces forty-two of the boys.

Or suppose I punish a nation by sending wild animals to eat people and scare away every passer-by, so that the land becomes a barren desert.

I am the LORD God, and I promise to punish Jerusalem severely. I will send war, starvation, wild animals, and deadly disease to slaughter its people and livestock.

I command everyone in my kingdom to worship and honour the God of Daniel. He is the living God, the one who lives for ever. His power and his kingdom will never end.

I'll send wild animals to attack you, and they will gobble up your children and livestock. So few of you will be left that your roads will be deserted.

Jonah answered, “I'm a Hebrew, and I worship the LORD God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land.”
