About the same time, King Hazael of Syria attacked the town of Gath and captured it. Next, he decided to attack Jerusalem.

When Asa heard about this, he took the silver and gold from his palace and from the LORD's temple. He gave it to some of his officials and sent them to Damascus with this message for King Benhadad of Syria:

Hazael will start killing the people who worship Baal. Jehu will kill those who escape from Hazael, and Elisha will kill those who escape from Jehu.

In those days the LORD began to reduce the size of Israel's territory. King Hazael of Syria defeated the Israelites and took control
