They chose their bull, then they got it ready and prayed to Baal all morning, asking him to start the fire. They danced around the altar and shouted, “Answer us, Baal!” But there was no answer.

Their hands have no feeling, their legs don't move, and they can't make a sound.

Those who boast about the useless idols they worship are terribly ashamed, and all the false gods bow down to the LORD.

That same night I will pass through Egypt and kill the firstborn son in every family and the firstborn male of all animals. I am the LORD, and I will punish the gods of Egypt.

This is a message about Egypt: The LORD comes to Egypt, riding swiftly on a cloud. The people are weak from fear. Their idols tremble as he approaches and says,

Or special wood may be chosen because it doesn't rot— then skilled hands take care to make an idol that won't fall on its face.

Woodcarvers, goldsmiths, and other workers encourage one another and say, “We've done a great job!” Then they nail the idol down, so it won't fall over.

They carry the idol on their shoulders, then put it on a stand, but it cannot move. They call out to the idol when they are in trouble, but it doesn't answer, and it cannot help.

Idols are worthless, and anyone who worships them is a fool!

I will fiercely attack. Then every god on this earth will shrink to nothing, and everyone of every nation will bow down to me, right where they are.

And whenever any evil spirits saw Jesus, they would fall to the ground and shout, “You are the Son of God!”

After the sacred chest had been in Philistia for seven months,

So make five gold models of the sores and five gold models of the rats that are wiping out your crops. If you honour the God of Israel with this gift, perhaps he will stop causing trouble for you and your gods and your crops.
