But you're not the one to do it. Your son will build a temple to honour me.”

But some time ago, he told me, “David, you have killed too many people and have fought too many battles. That's why you are not the one to build my temple.

After everyone was there, David stood up and said: Listen to me, my people. I wanted to build a place where the sacred chest would be kept, so we could go there and worship the LORD our God. I have prepared all the supplies for building a temple,

but the LORD has refused to let me build it, because he said I have killed too many people in battle.

I usually fed a hundred and fifty of our own Jewish people and their leaders, as well as foreign visitors from surrounding lands.

Each day one ox, six of the best sheep, and lots of chickens were prepared. Then every ten days, a large supply of wine was brought in. I knew what a heavy burden this would have been for the people, and so I did not ask for my food allowance as governor.

The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at my right side, until I make your enemies into a footstool for you.”

You let us rule everything your hands have made. And you put all of it under our power—

When I come to bring justice, you will trample those who are evil, as though they were ashes under your feet. I, the LORD All-Powerful, have spoken!

Christ will rule until he puts all his enemies under his power,

God has put all things under the power of Christ, and for the good of the church he has made him the head of everything.

After Joshua had called the army together, he forced the five kings to lie down on the ground. Then he called his officers forward and told them, “You fought these kings along with me, so put your feet on their necks.” The officers did,
