Adonijah met with Joab the son of Zeruiah and Abiathar the priest and asked them if they would help him become king. Both of them agreed to help.

Zadok and Abiathar the priests will be there with you, and you can tell them everything you hear in the palace.

Joab was the commander of Israel's entire army. Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was in command of David's bodyguard.

Sheva was the secretary. Zadok and Abiathar were the priests.

Joab the son of Zeruiah was the commander in chief of the army. Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud kept the government records.
