What happened to them is a warning to keep us from wanting to do the same evil things.

These things happened to them as a warning to us. All this was written in the Scriptures to teach us who live in these last days.

To you people of Philistia who live along the coast, the Lord has this to say: “I am now your enemy, and I'll wipe you out!”

That's why I came with a whirlwind and scattered them among foreign nations, leaving their lovely country empty of people and in ruins.

The Lord sent an angel to the camp of the Assyrians, and he killed 185,000 of them all in one night. The next morning, the camp was full of dead bodies.

I'll wipe out your towns and your places of worship and will no longer be pleased with the smell of your sacrifices.

And now your temple will be deserted.

Then I asked the Lord, “How long will this last?” The Lord answered: Until their towns are destroyed and their houses are deserted, until their fields are empty,

I have planned this for the whole world, and my mighty arm controls every nation.

I said to the Lord, “None of us can understand why the land has become like an uncrossable desert. Won't you explain why?”

There are still some nations left, but the Lord has promised you their land. So when you attack them, he will make them run away. I have already divided their land among your tribes, as I did with the land of the nations I defeated between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
