Paul got up. He motioned with his hand and said: People of Israel, and everyone else who worships God, listen!

The Word became a human being and lived here with us. We saw his true glory, the glory of the only Son of the Father. From him the complete gifts of undeserved grace and truth have come down to us.

Then the Lord will cover the whole city and its meeting places with a thick cloud each day and with a flaming fire each night. God's own glory will be like a huge tent that covers everything.

Evil people won't obey you, and so they have no hope of being saved.

So he said, “Go back and lie down! If someone speaks to you again, answer, ‘I'm listening, Lord. What do you want me to do?’ ” Once again Samuel went back and lay down.

Instead, you must ask your friends and relatives, “What answer did the Lord give?” or “What has the Lord said?”

If you go to a prophet, it's all right to ask, “What answer did the Lord give to my question?” or “What has the Lord said?”

I will bless you with a future filled with hope—a future of success, not of suffering.

Listen carefully to everything I say and then think about it.

While standing guard on the watchtower, I waited for the Lord's answer, before explaining the reason for my complaint.
